Tritons qualify for Nationals for 4th straight year
TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Tritons Rowing athletes from TC Central, TC West and St. Francis competed last weekend at the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championship – the sports 9-state regional championship and national qualifier.
“This is the biggest and most competitive regatta of the year for us. There were 52 teams, 580 event entries, and almost 2,300 athletes,” coach Chris Bott said. “Despite a challenging spring with late snow, heavy flooding, and high winds, the kids showed up prepared and focused. Most of our entries made it through the heats on Saturday to the finals on Sunday and two of our crews qualified for Scholastic Nationals in Tennessee later this month.”
The boys varsity double of Theo Jocks and Spencer Payne from TC Central claimed second place in a photo finish just 0.6 seconds behind Rockford.
The girls double team of Audrina Conrad and Sylvia Coulter from TC Central took 4th in the varsity double event and second by time in the girl’s junior double event. They will be competing at Scholastic Nationals in the girl’s junior double.
As Tritons Rowing prepares for the trip to Tennessee May 22-23, they are also gearing up to race at the Michigan State Championship in Milford, MI on May 16th.
