Baseball, softball referees needed
The Schohanna Board of Baseball and Softball Umpires will hold its first meeting of 2026 at the SUNY Oneonta HIRC building lecture hall #5 at 9 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 1. This is an open interest meeting for prospective umpires.

Soccer referees needed
Referees are needed for the upcoming spring travel soccer season. Anyone interested in becoming a USSF certified soccer referee and officiating travel games in Chenango, Delaware and Otsego Counties, contact Geoff Davis at geoff.davis@oneonta.edu.
Travel soccer registration open
Spots are open on the Otsego United Club’s spring 2026 travel soccer teams in the Cooperstown area. Practices are at The Clark Sports Center, with pre-season beginning in March. The season is from mid-April to June. Coaches are certified with U.S. Soccer.
Leagues are open for boys and girls in U8 (2018-2019 birth year), U10 (2016-2017 birth year), U12 (2014-2015 birth year), U14 (2012-2013 birth year), and U17 (2010-2011 birth year).

Applications still open for HOF internships
Applications are open for the Frank and Peggy Steele Memorial Internship Program for Youth Leadership Development, The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced in a media release.
The program “will provide students the chance to join the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum team in a summer-long internship, offering meaningful, hands-on training in numerous professional career fields for those who are chosen from the hundreds of applications received in Cooperstown each year.”
To be considered for the program, students must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program at a college or university, having completed at least their sophomore year of studies, or must have just graduated in May of the year of their internship.
Intern positions for 2026 will be available in fields such as Archives, Collections, Communications, Curatorial, Data Analyst, Development/Membership, Library-Giamatti Research Center, Licensing & Sales, Multimedia, Public Programs, Social Media and Special Events.

In order to complete an application, candidates must attach a cover letter and resume to the online application. Only completed applications will be reviewed for acceptance into the program. Applications must be received no later than Jan. 31.
With more than 25 years of history, the Frank and Peggy Steele Internship Program has welcomed more than 450 interns, equipping college students with the knowledge and experience necessary to work in their field of study.
