The Crossville Sports Authority unanimously approved the YMCA fundraising agreement during Tuesday’s meeting.
The fundraising agreement with the Putnam County YMCA will help cover operational costs for the new recreation center in Crossville.
The total cost is $10 million over a five-year period. Sports Authority Attorney Randall York warned that this is “aspirational.” These funds will be used to enhance the project.
The first $2 million that’s collected will go toward the YMCA, and that’s because they’re going to need the initial input of funds in order to properly equip the recreation center with all the equipment,” said Mandy Perhay, CEO of Putnam County Family YMCA. “Keep in mind that’s equipment. The Sports Authority will be paying for fixtures and furnishings.”
“The fund proceeds will be under the guidance of the YMCA and the Sports Authority,” said York. “The Sports Authority and the YMCA will open up a bank account at One Bank where these funds will be deposited.”
“So, it’ll take us a little bit to build up money to cover payroll, and so this will help with that and also help purchase the computers that we need to open and any little items that come up here and there to get us ready to open,” said Perhay. “Then, hopefully, sustain us until we break even is our plan.”
Crossville city officials announced in late September the partnership between the city, the Sports Authority and the YMCA.
The recreation center recently, as of late September, was set into motion. There will be a groundbreaking ceremony in late October or early November.
“The $38 million three-story facility at N. Main St. and Livingston Rd. will have a competition-size pool as its centerpiece,” said a Sept. 26 Crossville Chronicle article. “Other amenities include a gymnasium, multi-purpose rooms for classes and events, and an indoor track.”
On Wednesday, Oct. 2, Flynn Sign Company installed the sign on the site that will be home to the facility at N. Main St. and Livingston Rd.
Sports Authority members Brock Hill and Mark Moore were absent from this meeting.
The next Sports Authority meeting is scheduled for Nov. 5 at noon in City Hall conference room 317.
