NEWBURYPORT — The Jean C. Wilson Music Series in Newburyport will host Boston choral ensemble The Spectrum Singers on Sunday, March 24, at 4 p.m. at the Unitarian Church, 26 Pleasant St., Newburyport.
The third of four concerts in the 2024 Jean C. Wilson Music Series to be presented both in-person and online, Spectrum Singers will make series debut with a program titled “A Brilliant Spectrum of Repertoire!” including a performance of Brahms’ “Neue Liebeslieder, Op. 65.”
This program celebrates founding director John Erlich’s 44-year tenure as director of the ensemble.
Ehrlich formed The Spectrum Singers in 1980 and continues to lead the ensemble in concerts at First Church Congregational, Cambridge. The chorus is frequently joined by professional vocal soloists and orchestral musicians, and has been invited to collaborate with Cantata Singers, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Indian Hill Symphony, and several other musical organizations.
The chorus honors John Ehrlich in his final season as music director, while continuing its mission of performing both familiar and lesser-known works in programs of compelling depth and professional execution for an audience of appreciative listeners.
“It’s our goal to seek out and perform worthy, important music that is rarely heard,” Ehrlich said. “As our name suggests, we draw on the whole ‘spectrum’ of masterworks from the Renaissance to the present day.”
The Jean C. Wilson Music Series is named for Jean Wilson, one of the founders and the director of the music series for 28 years. Suggested donations are $20, and $10 for seniors. Children and students free. To purchase advance tickets to this concert go to https://bit.ly/Wilson2024-03-24.
