PLATTSBURGH — It was a big day for Saranac at the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse on Saturday.
The Spartans captured both the boys’ and girls’ Section VII Indoor Track and Field championship with numerous top performances.
Saranac won the boys with a point total of 160, 61 points more than second place Peru’s 99. Beekmantown finished third with 98 points, followed by AuSable Valley and Saranac Lake to round out the top five.
The Spartans had three overall wins led by Nolan Hamel capturing the 55-meter crown and Owen Dingman winning the 600-meter run.
The third win came in the 4×200 as Michael Strack, Riley Hutchinson, Nolan Hamel and Lincoln Wilkerson won with a time of 1:38.48.
Peru took four wins, three coming from jumps. Logan Porter won the long and triple jump, and David Nwadike won the high jump. The Nighthawks also won the 4×400 relay.
Beekmantown’s Nolan Laidman tripled on the day with individual wins in the 1,600 and 3,200 runs. He was also on the winning 4×800 relay team.
Plattsburgh High and Saranac Lake both finished with two wins on the day.
The Hornets won the 55-meter hurdles as Johnathan McCown finished in 8.08 seconds. Braydon Caraballo won the 300 in 38.16 seconds.
The Red Storm’s Miles Frazier and Sam Duprey won the shot put and weight throw, respectively.
AuSable Valley’s Reece Long won the 1,000-meter run with a time of 4:37.55.
It was as it has been all season, the Saranac girls ran away from the competition.
The Spartan girls won by a total score of 184.50 points, 45 points ahead of second place Peru with 139 points. Beekmantown finished third with 118, as Plattsburgh High and Ticonderoga rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Saranac’s Sienna Boulds stole the show with three wins in the 600, 1,500 and 3,000 runs.
Teammate Eve Liberty grabbed three wins as well with individual wins in the 55-meter dash and 300-meter run.
Liberty was also on the winning 4×400 relay team with Emma Ranger, Libby Wynnik and Sarah Lavigne.
The second-place Nighthawks finished with four wins across multiple disciplines. Maddy Welc took home the win in the 1,000-meter run. Maggie Garrow and Aubree Narducci won the high jump and triple jump, respectively.
Peru also captured the 4×200 relay.
Two of Beekmantown’s three wins came from Kylie Bishop, who took home victories in the shot put and discus. The third win came in the 4×800.
Ticonderoga’s Belle Burroughs took home two wins, the long jump and 55-meter hurdles.
With the team competition complete, competitors now prepare for State Qualifiers, which begin Saturday at 10 a.m.
