HARPERSFIELD – The boys side of the Stamford Mayor’s Cup opened with several stellar team and individual performances Monday, Aug. 31 at Russ Archibald Memorial Field.
Milford 5, Stamford/Jefferson 0
Cole Williams started the 2026 season off with a hat trick to lead Laurens/Milford past host Stamford/Jefferson in the first game of the Mayor’s Cup on Monday.
Laurens/Milford led at halftime, 2-0, on goals by Aidan Mertz and Williams.
Williams scored two more in the second half. Rafe Antila also scored for L/M, on an assist from Brendan Couse.
George Eggleston and Isaac Edson also had assists for L/M.
Laurens/Milford will play Charlotte Valley/Schenevus in the second round of the round-robin tournament at 3:45 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Stamford/Jefferson will play Unatego/Franklin at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, in the second round.

Jake Kingsbury had four goals and two assists as the Spartan Devils topped the Valor in the opening round of the Mayor’ Cup on Monday.
Lucian Couse got U/F on the board just 2:23 into the game on a ball from 30-yards out. About 12 minutes later, Jason Ostrander made a similar long goal, this time on a pass from Kingsbury.
With 17:36 left in the half, Ostrander fed Kingsbury for his first goal of the game. U/F led at halftime, 3-0.
The Valor started the second half pressing on offense and it paid off when Tanner Matz got a long ball over the head of U/F goalie Logan Kingsbury just 100 seconds into the second half. Tatum Beardslee got the assist.
Howwever, Kingsbury got the goal back three minutes later on an assist from Rashad Kiel. He also scored twice on second-half penalty kicks. Shon Klintcher also scored, on a double assist from Kingsbury and Yitzchuk Guttman. George Coulter had the final goal for the Spartan Devils.
Owen Green scored on a penalty kick late for CV/S to make it 8-2.
U/F outshot CV/S, 15-9. Each team had six corner kicks. Kingsbury had 10 saves for U/F. Two Valor goalies combined for 11 saves.
