One of the objectives of the Southern Stars Symphonic Brass has been to reward scholarships to Cumberland County School System graduating seniors who planned to attend a college or university to achieve a degree in instrumental Music Education or Music Performance.
In particular, another stipulation was that the student’s instrument of choice would be a brass instrument (something in the cornet/trumpet, french horn/alto horn, baritone, euphonium, trombone, tuba group or percussionist) as these represent the instruments utilized in brass bands like the SSSB.
This year is the first time in the ten years that the SSSB has had scholarships available, in that both of the scholarship criteria have been met and we are happy to have two individuals to receive SSSB scholarships.
Jack Monchecourt (bass trombone) will be attending TTU in Cookeville in the Fall seeking a degree in Music Education.
Zachary Sapp (euphonium and tuba) will be attending MTSU in Murfreesboro in the Fall seeking a degree in Music Education.
Each is receiving a $2,000 scholarship.
“We look forward to following their progress,” said SSSB President Dwight Wages.
Both Jack and Zach had the opportunity to sub or perform with the SSSB in the past season.
“We look forward to having them join us as subs for concerts during their four years at TTU and MTSU should opportunities become available,” said Wages.
