Local attorney nominated as court clerk magistrate
BOSTON — Gov. Maura Healey this week announced the nomination of Ann Dawley as clerk magistrate of the Peabody District Court
“Clerk magistrates play a vital role in ensuring fairness, accessibility and efficiency throughout our court system, and these attorneys are excellent candidates for the role,” Healey said.
“I look forward to working with the Governor’s Council to confirm these four highly qualified candidates as clerk magistrates and help our courts continue to deliver outstanding service to the people of Massachusetts,” Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll said.
Dawley currently serves as the acting clerk magistrate of the Peabody District Court, a position she has held since June, and previously served as the court’s first assistant clerk magistrate. As acting clerk magistrate, Dawley supervises daily operations of the Clerk’s Office including managing hiring and personnel issues. In addition, she oversees applications for search and arrest warrants, conducts show cause hearings, presides over small claims cases and manages the court’s case schedule.
Prior to joining the Clerk’s Office, Dawley operated a solo law practice advising regional law enforcement and public safety organizations. Before that, she was the legislative director for Sen. James P. Jajuga, then as the general counsel of the Massachusetts Criminal History Systems Board, and then as the chairperson and executive director of the Sex Offender Registry Board.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from Salem State College, and a Juris Doctor degree from New England School of Law.
Salem resident conducts impactful research through honors fellowship
MANCHESTER, N.H. — Saint Anselm College student Abbi Edgington from Salem, New Hampshire, a criminal justice and English major in the class of 2027, recently conducted research through the Honors Summer Research Fellowship. Her research focused on if women who experience sexual violence are more likely to commit violent crime than women who have not and if the time in which the violence is experienced is an important determinant in their later criminal behavior.
In Saint Anselm’s honors program, students conduct research through a variety of courses and across disciplines and majors. The Honors Summer Research Fellowship gives exceptional students the opportunity to do paid research. These fellowships support living on campus for the summer and becoming part of an intellectual learning community made of other dedicated students and faculty across disciplines working on research over the summer.
