The Ski Club of Lockport (SCOL) will present its fourth annual Ski4ACure™ on Feb. 13 at HoliMont Ski Resort. Skiers, snowboarders and winter sports enthusiasts of all abilities are invited to spend the day doing a fun-filled variety of activities in support of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
According to SCOL member Roxanne Wallace, money raised through Ski4ACure helps accelerate Roswell Park’s research and clinical trials in immunotherapy, quality of life programs and provision of wigs and head coverings through Elevate Salon. For every $1 donated to cancer research, Roswell Park is able to leverage $23 from grants for research.
Ski4ACure was inspired by the Pink Vail event in Colorado to support a cancer center. Pink Vail became a major annual ski event and over time has raised millions. Ski4ACure chair Tom Doran said the Ski Club of Lockport, established in 1964, is aiming to create a similar impact for Western New York.
Registration for Ski4ACure includes an all-day lift ticket (a $100 value), a catered lunch by Dina’s on the Mont, a Match-Your-Time Downhill event, a Scavenger Hunt, and a Down Hill Parade for cancer fighters, survivors, family and friends. All guests at the resort may participate in the Bombardier Ball Drop, basket raffles and 50/50 split. Free ski demos will be offered by Lockport’s Snowflake Ski Shop/245 Board Company and Ellicottville’s The City Garage. Cross country and snow shoeing are also offered.
Registration costs $125 until Jan. 31; the price increases to $135 on Feb. 1. Use the link on the ski club’s website, https://skicluboflockport.com/ski-4-a-cure/. Donations can be made through the same link.
