It’s turning out to be a spooky season at Meridian Community College as the MCC Foundation and the college’s alumni association have teamed up to host a Skeleton Showdown Decorating Contest for staff and faculty.
Throughout campus, numerous MCC faculty and staff members have decorated skeletons and placed them in their workspace or common area for everyone to see.
“The purpose of the contest is simply to have fun and provide some comedic relief for students, faculty and staff who may be feeling stressed during the middle of the semester,” said Courtney Pitts, Lifetime Quest and Alumni Association program coordinator for the MCC Foundation. “We’ve seen several interesting skeletons so far.”
Pitt said the idea came to Dr. Leia Hill, executive director of the MCC Foundation and vice president for institutional advancement, last year when she noticed staff in the Academic Affairs office decorating and dressing up a skeleton to use as decoration during the month of October.
“She thought it would be fun to do something similar campus-wide,” Pitts said. “This year, we decided that the Alumni Association and Foundation would sponsor this event. We provided skeletons to those interested in participating and encouraged everyone to be as fun, creative and spooky as they wanted.”
MCC students are encouraged to take pictures with the skeletons and post them on social media with the hashtag #MccSkeletonShowdown2024 to be entered into a drawing for a prize.
A panel of judges will select winners based on creativity, theme and overall execution with the first-place grand prize winner set to be announced during the college’s annual Candy Cruise on Oct. 29.
Skeletons can be found at the following locations on the MCC campus: Associate Degree Nursing simulation lab in Webb Hall, Advising, Business Office, CFO’s office, Communications, eLearning, Fitness Center, MCC Foundation, Dental Assisting, Physical Therapy Assistant, Institutional Effectiveness/Research, Information Technology, MCC President’s office, Radiologic Technology, Recruiting/Admissions, Student Success & Library and Workforce Development.
