TRAVERSE CITY – Local merchants are organizing a scavenger hunt from April 18 – 26 to promote commerce in Downtown Traverse City.
The Signs of Spring Scavenger Hunt presented by the Downtown Traverse City Association is described by organizers as “a family-friendly seek and find game” designed to help local shoppers and visitors support the independent shop owners and restaurateurs doing business downtown.
“The ‘Signs of Spring’ hunt is a fun way to remind our neighbors that if we want to keep the downtown vibe we know and love, we have to support the people behind the counters right now. Every visit counts,” said Sara Klebba, the DTCA’s event manager.
Participants are invited to visit dozens of participating downtown businesses to find one of six hidden spring icons including rabbits, suns, morel mushrooms, robins, rain boots and tulips. Each hidden icon features a unique QR code. When a “Seeker” finds an icon inside a business and scans the code, they are entered to win a $250 Downtown TC Gift Card.
Every unique business visited counts as a new entry, and in an effort to highlight “hidden gems,” check-ins at businesses located outside the main 100 and 200 blocks of E. Front Street will count as double entries.
“When you choose to spend an afternoon hunting for signs of spring in our shops, you aren’t just playing a game, you’re directly supporting the local families and staff who keep our downtown humming,” said Karen Roofe, DTCA Board President and owner of downtown businesses My Secret Stash and I’m Planty and Fancy.
