There weren’t many events that Masconomet junior Mara Siewko didn’t score points in this winter … and there weren’t many athletes in the Northeastern Conference who scored more total points, either.
The Division 3 state champion in the long jump as well as the state champion in the pentathlon, Siewko was voted NEC girls indoor track Athlete of the Year by the league’s coaches recently. She won the NEC title in both the long jump and the high jump.
Earning boys Athlete of the Year honors was Gloucester’s Jaylen Severino, who also placed third at the state pentathlon. Dave Coleman of Gloucester was chosen as NEC boys Coach of the Year and girls Coach of the Year honors went to Swampscott’s Joe Tenney.
On the boys side, Marblehead won both the NEC Dunn title as well as the NEC championship meet. The Magicians saw Clark Roszell named All-Conference in the high jump.
Lynch champion Swampscott had several All-Conference honorees in Anthony Colella (mile), the 4×800 relay (Colella, Simon Brown, Simon Ramos, Lincoln Geaney) and shot putter Ben White.
Peabody’s All-Conference selections were Osama Mishal (600) and Mohamed Lhassouani (1000) as well as the 4×200 relay (Christ Jeune, Owen Angland).
Beverly also had a pair of All-Conference choices in New England qualifying hurdles Myles Gregory and 2-miler Jason Provost.
Danvers’ Zach Dunn was the All-NEC pick in the dash while Masconomet’s Tim Lull was All-NEC in the 300 and the Chieftain 4×400 of Lull, Nicco Cefalo, Devlin Hixon and Jack Duvall also earned top honors.
Peabody’s Tanner girls swept through both the NEC Dunn and the league championship meet and saw Maya Sutton (long jump), Lauren Foley (1000) and Avery Marcus (600) named All-NEC along with their 4×400 relay team of Lilah Trombley, Ella Braz, Foley and Marcus.
Marblehead had four All-NEC picks in Mari O’Connell (mile), Lucy Flynn (300), Lillian Reddy (shot put) and the 4×800 relay team (O’Connell, Norah Walsh, Sarah Munroe and Ruby Assa).
Masconomet’s Madi Gibeau Schmitt (2-mile) and Danvers’ Tess Ryan (dash) were All-NEC along with Destinky Okoye of Saugus and Gloucester’s 4×200 relay.
