VALDOSTA — SGMC Health welcomes cardiothoracic surgeon Patrick Murrah, MD, to the health system. Murrah joins SGMC Health’s Physician Network and will see patients at SGMC Health Main and the SGMC CardioVascular Institute
Murrah has more than 22 years of experience in cardiothoracic surgery and is no stranger to Valdosta, having cared for patients at SGMC’s Dasher Heart Center from 2003-2013.
As a cardiothoracic surgeon, Murrah treats patients with diseases or injuries in their chest, such as the heart, lungs, and esophagus. He will bring new capabilities to the program as he specializes in robotic thoracic surgery, a minimally invasive surgery used in lung cancer cases, as well as hybrid convergent ablation, a minimally invasive procedure for atrial fibrillation.
Murrah attended medical school and completed his surgical residency at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama. He completed his residency in cardiothoracic surgery and fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Emory University Hospitals, where he also served as a faculty member.
“What I love about Valdosta is the pride people have in this community,” Murrah said. “I am very excited for the opportunity to relocate here and help my partners to build and advance the level of cardiac care provided at SGMC Health.”
His certifications include the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
Outside of work, Murrah enjoys playing golf, studying history, and spending time with his family.
