Crossville Police Monday traveled to a local apartment complex and arrested a man wanted on felony sexual assault charges involving a child in Sevier County.
The man was taken into custody without incident.
Christopher Dale Wooten, 44, was found in an apartment at Heather Ridge Circle, according to CPD’s Sgt. Keith Sadula’s report. He is charged with rape of a child and aggravated sexual battery.
Wooten was returned to the Sevier County Justice Center Tuesday and is held without bond on the child rape charge. Bond on the aggravated sexual battery is listed as $200,000.
Online booking records show Wooten is classified in the jail as a “pre-trial felon,” meaning he has not appeared in court in Sevier County to answer to the charge.
Late Thursday the Chronicle received a copy of the indictment handed down in Sevier County.
The sealed indictment — which was the basis for the arrest in Crossville — states the following:
Count 1 states sexual intercourse is alleged on Oct. 11, 2024, involving a child under the age of 13, and Count 2 alleges forced sexually contact by the same victim.
The indictments were sealed until the arrest was made in Crossville.
The indictment — handed down June 30 — was signed by Pigeon Forge Police. Det. Matt Pendleton.
Other witnesses listed include an investigator with the state Department of Children’s Services and CPD Det. Jonathan Tollett.
