MOULTRIE – Severe weather is moving into the area later this afternoon and into Thursday, which has the possibility of bringing damaging winds and flash flooding.
Justin Cox, the Colquitt County Emergency Management Agency director, stated via email that, “We believe our biggest threats are going to be in the early morning hours and hopefully weakening and moving out by daylight tomorrow morning. We are, however, in store for a lot of rain and some potentially severe thunderstorms.”
The initial storm is expected to arrive in this area between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. this evening.
According to the National Weather Service, an intense and powerful squall line will also move through the region with the Western Counties being most affected. The line may weaken while approaching I-75.
Ahead of the squall like, according to the Tallahassee Weather Forecast Office, Colquitt County could see non-thunderstorm wind gusts, late tonight and into Thursday, from 35 to 40 mph and see 3” to 4” of rain during the severe weather event. Flash flooding is of special concern in Southwest Georgia. The squall line is predicted to arrive in this area between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m.
