At the last meeting of the 127 Seniors, Cynthia Lynn from Integrity Home Care spoke and gave the members some very helpful information about how home care specialists can make life easier for veterans who want to stay independent in their homes. They offer non-medical help with many household tasks and personal care. The best news is that Cynthia and her team will contact the Veteran’s Administration directly to determine if the veteran is eligible for these services. They also offer services by private pay and long-term care insurance. Integrity Home Care offers services in Crossville and will soon be setting up an office here.
For more information about what they offer and how they can help, call 423-428-9291. They can also be found on Facebook. The 127 Senior Center is always looking for ways to help veterans – they certainly deserve our gratitude and our help when they need it.
Every Friday morning at 9:30, the members are excited to get started with Bingo, which is very popular at the 127 Senior Center. The Center is entirely self-funded and relies on donations to keep things running smoothly, including having plenty of popular Bingo prizes. The members wish to thank the Bingo sponsor this past week, Buckeye Medical Group. Cynthia Lynn also brought along some great prizes, and this was much appreciated! If you know of a local business who might want to sponsor Bingo for the Center, please call the office at 931-484-2547.
The 127 Seniors always welcome new members 50 years of age or older. The regular meetings are on Fridays, with the doors opening at 8 a.m. for coffee and fellowship, games, or just chatting and catching up with old friends and making new ones. Visitors are greeted by two of the friendliest ladies you will ever meet – Diane and Betty, and they will fill you in on everything you need to know about the Center, and then introduce you to some new friends. Bingo is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., and then President Arelene Simmons presides over a short meeting so the members can find out about all the events coming up. During the meetings, members are invited to speak if they have an announcement or a joke to tell. Long-time member Leonard Hollender always has a joke for the members and was missed last week as he was off on an adventure with his daughter. New member Chet Darby was welcomed at the last meeting, along with visitors Sue Adcock and Joyce and Terry Grams. Member Tom Fincher announced that the United Fund Variety Show at the Palace Theater originally scheduled for June 8 is now rescheduled for Sept.14. Tom will be the entertainer at the Center on March 8th. Tom has been playing guitar and performing since he was 17 – and he is a big favorite of the members. After the meeting, there is musical entertainment or a speaker who shares helpful information for local seniors. Lunch is next, which members can purchase for $5.
The community is invited to come to the center for live music every Thursday evening, from 6-8 p.m. Gene Brown and friends always provide some great music of various types including bluegrass, country, and more. There’s dancing, too, and all are welcome.
The community is also invited to come out and enjoy a free movie, along with popcorn and soft drinks, on the second Monday of every month, at 2 p.m. Tom Simmons hosts this event every month, and picks out a fun movie for all to enjoy. The February movie was When Harry met Sally, a fun romantic comedy in honor of Valentine’s Day. The movie for March will be on the 11th at 2 p.m.
Do you enjoy playing games? March 12th is Game Day, hosted by Jim Blalock. Game Day is the second Tuesday of every month, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch can be purchased ahead of time for $5. Give the office a call if you’d like to come enjoy Game Day – membership is not required.
