The Lewiston Senior Center saw participation in nearly every activity and service grow in 2023, its 32nd year.
The center, located at 4361 Lower River Road, offers a variety of opportunities for seniors to be active, informed, learn or just the simple act of being social with residents in any number of ways.
Well over 5,000 seniors were served lunch in 2023 (for $3.25) along with the very popular trivia contest every Friday. Physical activities include yoga, band exercise and stretching classes, among others.
More gentle activities in 2023 included Bridge, Euchre, Mahjongg and Pinochle games. A woodcarver’s group meets every Thursday morning, as do quilters and knitters. The monthly flower arranging class has become extremely popular, with an increase of more than 250% in 2023.
Service opportunities include tax assistance, cell phone/tech support, grief support and legal assistance once per month. Creative opportunities include watercolor classes as well as the above-mentioned flower arranging.
Seniors use the center’s van service daily for medical appointments, necessary shopping, and transportation back and forth to the center.
