SARANAC — After weather delayed the originally scheduled meet, cheerleaders descended on Saranac High School for sectionals.
Three winners of each respective class were crowned and will move on to take part in the NYSPHSAA Cheerleading Championships, in Binghamton on Saturday.
In Class C, Northeastern Clinton won with Plattsburgh being tabbed as runner up.
In Class D, Moriah was dubbed the winner.
In CO-ED, Saranac took home the first prize with Northern Adirondack being runner up.
The CVAC championship, awarded to the highest scoring CVAC team in any division, was awarded to Moriah.
While the main attraction was to see who would represent Section VII, there were individual contests that also gained attention: the jump off and longest held extension.
In the Section VII jump off, Keith Poulin of Saranac won first overall. Amelia Kazlo of Moriah came in second with fellow Spartan Shawna Manor rounding out the top three. Makaela Goddeau of Plattsburgh and Nora Mesec of Saranac earned fourth and fifth, respectively.
In the longest held extension contest, Plattsburgh took home the top spot. Jania Young, Nataliya Canada, Cali Ryerson and Sierra Maggy represented the Hornets.
Moriah finished second with Addy Nephew, Ashlyn Mandy, Lauren Bigalow and Reagan Baker comprising the team.
Saranac came in third as Samara LeDuc, Emma Shelters, Nora Mesec and Emily McDermott were the Spartan representatives.
The CVAC All Star team will be showcased at a later date. Team members were nominated for the position they excelled on their respective team. All Around nominees demonstrate strength at all positions (stunting, tumbling, jumping).
