PLATTSBURGH — After a weekend packed with basketball, it’s only fitting for Section VII to get together one more time this season.
The next two days, the winners of each Class will play one game against another in the inaugural Section VII Champions Challenge. Clinton Community College is hosting the event.
The two day event will showcase both boys and girls winners before subregionals begin play next week.
Wednesday the girls champions will get it kicked off.
At 6 p.m., Class D champion Schroon Lake will take on Class C champion Moriah. The teams met earlier this season with the Vikings winning 48-22, Jan 14 at Schroon Lake.
Following the conclusion of this game, the Class B champion Saranac will again face Class A champion Peru. The teams will be meeting for the fourth time with Peru holding a 2-1 advantage in the series. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
“I think we’re ready,” Schroon Lake’s Sloan Clark said, “And, you know, that (loss) was earlier in the season, and we’ve improved greatly.
“We’re strong and trust each other. Everything that we’ve worked hard for is going to come out of these games.”
The boys tournament takes place Thursday with the same class champions coming together.
At 6 p.m., in what may be the game of the two day event, Class D champion Bolton faces off against Class C champion Moriah.
Both teams won their championship games with strong play on both sides of the ball.
Class B Champion Saranac Lake will take on Class A Champion Beekmantown, with a 7:30 p.m. tip off.
“It’s huge, it keeps us motivated,” Beekmantown’s Alek Duprey said. “A week-long break is hard to get back into the grind, so this helps.
“It gives us something to play for and in the end it’s going to help us boost for the playoffs.”
Tickets can be purchased for the event at gofan.co/nysphsaa7. Credit card payments will also be accepted at the door. Spectators will be allowed in at 5:30 p.m.
