To say the game was frantic would be an understatement.
Both Saranac Lake and Northeastern Clinton sped up and down the court as they tried outpacing one another.
The Red Storm proved the be the more resilient in the boys Class B basketball championship, defeating the Cougars, 41-37.
“That’s just our ability to grind as a team,” Mik Denkenberger said. “I mean, we practice stuff like that. We practice hard every day.”
It would be a game neither team could grab a hold of, coming down to the final seconds to determine a winner. It also added to the tenacity Saranac Lake fought with going back to their semifinal win against Saranac Lake.
“Well, we’ve always been a hard-working group of guys,” Cedar Crist said. “We just, we really wanted this from the first day in the locker room. We put it on our whiteboard saying, you know, we want to win a sectional title, and here we are.”
It would mark Saranac Lake’s first sectional title since 1998, as the game began to wind down it became overwhelming for the players as they realized it was coming to fruition.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Crist said. “The seconds counted down and the tears began to fall. It was pure happiness. It was tears of joy.”

It was all Chazy at the start. The Eagles rushed out to a 9-0 lead and was in control early.
Then the Wildcats woke up.
Schroon Lake went on a 13-4 run to tie things up at the end of the first quarter, thanks to a buzzer beating three pointer at the buzzer by Brielle Emmert.
After one quarter of play, it’s tied at 13.
The second quarter continued as the first one ended.
Schroon Lake flexed its muscle as they began to pull away. At the break it’s a 26-20 lead for the Wildcats.
