The second canal barge holding pieces of the Ralph Wilson Park bridge is expected to pass through Lockport Locks E-34 and E-35 sometime between 7 and 9 a.m. today, according to social media posts by Carver Companies, the maritime and construction business transporting the barges.
The barge was docked in Albion overnight Thursday, pushed from Rochester to complete delivery of the bridge crafted in Italy and shipped to New York state in pieces.
The first barge, pushed by tugboat CMT Otter, arrived in Lockport about 7 a.m. Tuesday, which was 716 Day, and continued on to Lake Erie-side Ralph Wilson Park in downtown Buffalo.
The 266-foot pedestrian bridge at Ralph Wilson Park will be erected over the I-190. A release from the Ralph Wilson Park Conservancy stated, “This bridge, once installed, will connect neighborhoods to a legacy park transforming the waterfront for those in the present and future.”
Construction of the 100-acre waterfront park along Lake Erie in downtown Buffalo began in 2022.
The park was inspired by Imagine LaSalle, a “community-driven initiative” to make the former LaSalle Park into a year-round destination.
