Some Gloucester school bus routes will be returning to normal Wednesday now that buses and heavy trucks are again allowed over the Blynman Bridge as repairs continue.
The detour on the bridge and Western Avenue forcing buses and trucks to find alternate routes was lifted Saturday, Feb. 7, after the Massachusetts Department of Transportation shifted the work zone to the southbound side of the road.
Western Avenue will continue to be alternating, one-way traffic across the bridge. Residents can expect construction to be done seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Work to conduct “critical steel repairs” on the aging structure commonly referred to as the Cut Bridge began in early January according to MassDOT Transportation Communications Analyst John Goggin.
School buses, CATA buses and other heavy trucks had to find alternative routes while the detour was in place. Gloucester schools sent out messages Monday to the school community that several morning routes were back on track, listing the timing for stops.
Construction is still ongoing and Goggin estimates work will end in mid-March.
