An epic day at the plate in the middle of a section championship game made Schenevus senior Tim Green The Daily Star’s Athlete of the Week for the week ending Saturday, May 30.
Green, an infielder for Schenevus/Charlotte Valley made Gilboa-Conesville/Roxbury pay for pitching to him in the Section IV Class D baseball championship in Sidney on May 29. The RocketCats intentionally walked Green twice in four at bats during the Dragons 8-3 win. The other two at bats, Green hit a home run and doubled off the wall. S/CV beat G-C/R again in the sub-regional game June 2.

The Athlete of the Week nominations for the week of May 31-June 6 are:
Victoria Green, Deposit/Hancock softball: Green, a junior at Deposit, helped send her team to the Class C Final Four with a big performance at the plate. She homered and scored three times in the 5-1 D/H win over Falconer in the Western Regional title game Saturday, June 6, at Gates-Chili High School in Rochester.
Mikenzie Schoonmaker, Windham-Ashland-Jewett softball: Schoonmaker, a Windham sophomore, also had a big week during regionals. She doubled, homered and had four RBI during W-A-J’s 10-1 win over Chapel Field Christian in the regional round Friday, June 5, at Monroe-Woodbury High School.
Dejah Taylor, Sidney track and field: Taylor, a senior sprinter, had a big meet at the Section IV State Qualifiers on Wednesday, June 3 and Thursday, June 4, at Union-Endicott High School. Taylor won the 400 in 57.0. She also placed second in the 200 in 25.76.
Allen Osborne, Schenevus/Charlotte Valley baseball: Osborne, a senior pitcher and infielder, has been a big part of the Dragons’ sports success this spring and the entire school years. He pitched a six-inning three-hitter and struck out 10 in S/CV’s 6-4 sub-regional win over Gilboa-Conesville/Roxbury in Sidney on June 2.
Darren Rose, Oneonta track and field: Rose, a senior sprinter and jumper, also had a big meet at the Section IV State Qualifier. Rose won the triple jump with a best of 43-11.25. He placed third in the 200 in 22.53. He was also on the winning 1,600 relay team with William Cooper, Jacob Morse and Noah Cotter, which finished in 3:29.12.
Nolan Stark, Oneonta baseball: Stark, a senior pitcher, had an amazing game even in defeat as the Yellowjackets ended their season with a Western Regional loss to Medina in Hamburg on Saturday, June 6. Stark threw a two-hitter with nine strikeouts in Oneonta’s 1-0 loss to the Mustangs. Medina pitcher Preston Woodworth threw a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts in classic pitcher’s duel.
