Hungry community members lined the halls of South Central College in North Mankato on Tuesday in anticipation for a steaming hot Thanksgiving plate courtesy of the school’s culinary arts students.
Dubbed the “Grateful Gathering,” the second annual event served as a showcase for the students’ cooking talents and gave folks a chance to break bread with fellow community members for $10 a plate.
Additionally, students from the architectural drafting and design program teamed up with culinary students to design and construct festive (and fragrant) gingerbread houses, which were featured in a silent auction benefiting both programs.
Renae Kappe traveled 300 miles from Ada to attend the event. She was among those who bid on the edible decorative homes.
“It just caught my eye,” Kappe said of her motivation for bidding.
