Senior tailback Ben Iglesias, junior quarterback Billy Vincent and the North Andover football team didn’t seem bothered by the rain, the early start, or the slick grass surface of Hurd Stadium on Saturday.
Iglesias ran for 156 yards and three touchdowns, while Vincent had 82 yards on the ground, 132 more through the air, and accounted for a trio of scores himself as the Scarlet Knights captured a 40-14 victory over host Beverly.
Playing against a Panther squad missing its top three running backs and several offensive linemen, the Knights (now 2-0) grabbed a two-touchdown lead early in the second quarter and never looked back.
Iglesias and Vincent handled all 38 of the Scarlet Knights’ rushing attempts, finding holes behind an offensive line that continually pushed the pile forward and averaging nearly 6.3 yards on the ground.
Iglesias had scoring jaunts of 5, 36 and 6 yards in the first two quarters. Vincent added 82 yards on 18 attempts, including two touchdown runs of his own in the second half.
When they went to the air, Vincent was efficient in going 4-for-6 for 132 yards and a score to Jake Jackson.
Pinkerton 24, Windham 8
Saturday afternoon was pretty dreary. Matt Morrison and Pinkerton Academy didn’t seem to mind.
The Astros’ senior carried 25 times for 166 yards and all three Pinkerton touchdowns in the 24-8 win in the rain and slop at Windham High.
The win brings the Astros to 3-0 on the season, outscoring opponents 112-25. With the loss, Windham falls to 1-2.
The Astros rode four huge turnovers to keep Windham off the board for nearly the entire 48 minutes. John Hanlon, Caiden Morrow and Anthony Caruso all had fumble recoveries, while Cam Dillon added an interception.
Windham’s Hayden Tedesco had a game for himself, running 35 times for 135 yards. Jaguars quarterback Kevin Murphy was out due to injury, while backup Adrian Bergman had six carries for 36 yards.
Middlesex 21, Brooks 13
Brooks carried a 13-7 lead into halftime of its season opener but couldn’t hold on.
Sandown, N.H.’s Liam Corman ran for both of the Brooks TDs in his debut after transferring from Timberlane Regional.
