MANKATO — The Salvation Army Day Shelter will be open on Labor Day, offering an abbreviated schedule and services to people experiencing homelessness.
“It is exciting to be part of a team that helps meet the needs of others,” stated Capt. Andy Wheeler in a news release. “There are some incredible agencies that offer wonderful services to our unhoused friends. We understand a need for additional resources would be approaching on Labor Day, so we found a way to step up.”
It’s unique for The Salvation Army to offer sheltering services on a holiday like this. However, the Emergency Social Services, the Noon Meal Program and the Thrift Store will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.
The Day Shelter will be open for the community’s unhoused from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. With the help of Partners for Housing, Connections Shelter, Greater Mankato United Way, the city of Mankato and Blue Earth County, The Salvation Army Day Shelter team will provide breakfast, lunch and to-go meals Monday, and showers will be available throughout the open hours.
No guest laundry services will be available.
