SALEM — Firefighters were battling a house fire on Felt Street early Sunday morning that spread to the home next door.
According to scanner reports, a fire in the basement at 35 Felt St. was initially reported around 9 p.m. on Saturday. Salem fire crews reportedly arrived to find smoke showing and the fire possibly extending up to the first floor.
By about 10:30 p.m., the fire was under control. But, around 2:30 a.m., the fire had restarted, according to reports.
Fire crews sounded a third alarm shortly after returning to 35 Felt St., where they reported heavy fire in the 1½ story home with exposure issues.
At 2:48 p.m., the fire had extended to 31 Felt St, according to reports.
At 3:30 a.m., National Grid was requested to cut power to the length of Felt Street and the surrounding area.
