SALEM, N.H. — The Town Council announced it has appointed Joe Devine, who served in the interim role for seven months, as its next town manager on Friday.
Devine will make $172,500 annually in the position, Town Council Chair Joe Sweeney said.
In a press release, the town noted Devine’s extensive background in municipal management, leadership abilities and dedication to community-driven governance led to its decision.
“The Town Council is confident that his leadership will guide Salem successfully in the years to come,” the press release went on. “He brings continuity and a forward-looking vision to the role.”
Devine has served Salem since 2022. He first started as the assistant town manager.
Devine assumed the position of interim town manager after former Town Manager Chris Dillon resigned on Feb. 23. Devine was introduced as interim town manager at the Town Council meeting on Feb. 26.
Sweeney expressed his support for the decision, stating, “We are confident that Joe’s experience in municipal management, his leadership skills and his commitment to community-driven governance will serve the town of Salem exceptionally well.”
He added the Town Council looks forward to working with Devine to move Salem forward.
In a statement, Devine said it is an honor after serving in his previous capacities and expressed his excitement for this next chapter.
“I’ve had the privilege of working closely with our dedicated staff and community, and I look forward to building on the progress we’ve made together,” Devine said.
“I’m grateful to the Town Council for their confidence in my leadership, and I’m committed to ensuring that Salem continues to thrive and remain a vibrant community for all residents.”
