DECA members from Ross Collins Career and Technical Center recently competed in the DECA State Competition in Vicksburg.
Competitive events included categories, such as Food Marketing Series, Retail Merchandising, Human Resource Management, Business Administration and Management and more. Each student was given a scenario for their competitive event where they had to role-play with a judge to solve a problem.
For several weeks, the Ross Collins students have worked hard to prepare for the state competition with their end goal of advancing to represent Mississippi at the national conference. Five DECA members won in the state competition and qualified to advance to the national competition, which will be held April 27-30 in Anaheim, California. To advance to the national competition, students had to place first, second or third in their category.
The following Ross Collins students placed in the state competition: Jamarcus Towner, second place in Food Marketing Series; Marley Foy, second place in Retail Merchandising; Chloe Braxton, second place in Human Resource Management; Laniece Kincaide, third place in Marketing Communication Series; Anyla Stevenson, third place in Principles of Business Management and Administration; Blissany Bigbee, fourth place in Apparel and Accessories Marketing; and Xazarria Blanks, fourth place in Quick Serve Restaurant Management Series.
“I am beyond proud of this entire group,” said Latonya May, Ross Collins CTC’s marketing instructor. “They all have done exceptionally well for our district and state competition.”
