CUMBERLAND — Access to the Love’s Travel Stop was limited Tuesday night after a tractor-trailer overturned attempting to enter the parking lot, according to the Cumberland Police Department.
The incident occurred just after 9 p.m. and limited the entrance to one lane at the travel center, located at 13300 Ali Ghan Road on Cumberland’s East Side.
A police department spokesperson said on Wednesday no injuries were reported, and no charges or citations were issued but could not provide any additional information.
Cumberland Fire Department requested the assistance of the Allegany County Special Operations team due to a fuel leak, according to Special Operations Chief Derek Crippin.
“Cumberland Fire Department units found approximately 50-75 gallons of diesel fuel leaking from the saddle tanks of the truck,” Crippen said. “We were able to control the leak and pump the remaining fuel off.”
Crippen added that with the fast response and identification of the leak, they were able to control it quickly with minimal risk.
After fire department operations were completed, Crippen said it took about an hour for additional equipment to offload the trailer and upright the truck and trailer to completely open the entrance.
Crippen said that it was a refrigerated trailer hauling grapes.
Units from Cumberland, Bedford Road, Allegany County Department of Emergency Services and the Allegany County Special Operations Team responded to the incident.
Fire department units began clearing the scene just before 10:30 p.m., according to officials.
