SENECA ROCKS, W.Va. — A rock climber who suffered a fall Saturday at Seneca Rocks in Pendleton County is recovering from injuries after being rescued by the Maryland State Police Trooper 5 helicopter.
A spokesman for the agency said the victim was rescued at about 2:20 p.m. in a hoist operation necessitated by the remote location and limited access to the accident location.
The victim was flown to the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The emergency operation included assistance of local first responders in addition to a trooper rescue technician who was lowered to the ground to assist the victim prior to the rescue and flight to the medical facility.
Trooper 5 is based at the Greater Cumberland Regional Airport and is one of seven aviation command bases located throughout the state. The Maryland State Police Aviation Command operates a fleet of 10 AW-139 helicopters serving Maryland and nearby communities.
