CUMBERLAND — Roberta “Robbie” Hammond has been selected as this year’s Marsha L. Thomas Memorial Halloween Parade marshal.
Hammond is a lifelong resident of Cumberland. She and her husband, Mike, have three children, Gary, Jimmy and Rachel (husband Tate) and one granddaughter, Josie.
Hammond worked at ABL, the unemployment office and as a social worker for the state before her retirement.
She has volunteered at John Humbird Elementary School weekly since her retirement and is an active and lifelong member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church where she has held several leadership positions. At the church, she has organized numerous community outreach programs that include projects that support John Humbird Elementary, the local food pantry, 1st Way Pregnancy, the Animal Shelter and the Allegany College of Maryland Pantry.
Hammond also coordinates the Summer Lunchbox Program for Emmanuel, which provides weekly lunches to families in need each summer. Each week, she organized the packing of 500-plus lunches.
“Her commitment to volunteering and serving others is an inspiration to our entire community,” parade organizers said via a release. “We are honored to recognize her as this year’s parade marshal and celebrate the difference she continues to make through her kindness, dedication and selfless service.”
