The Cumberland County Republican Women’s next meeting Oct. 2 will focus on personal safety.
There will be several presenters featured, President Linda Clark said.
George Gerrard, a martial arts expert with 50 years of experience, will talk about adapting his techniques to older and younger students that do not have the mobility or strength to overcome an opponent.
“With this in mind there are things that everyone can do to give themselves an opportunity to avoid or get away from certain attacks,” said Gerrard, who currently trains at the Crossville Ishinryu Academy.
Gerrard has earned Ishinryu 1st degree; Shorin Ryu 2nd degree, and Tae Kwon Do 4th degree. During his training he has had many opportunities to work with civilian and military police in hand-to-hand combat.
Other presenters on the program will include Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Bobby Moore, Sherry Mason of Damsels in Distress, and John Mulcrone, local Byrna representative.
Meetings for the Cumberland County Republican Women are the first Thursday of the month, at Tennessee College of Applied Technology Upper Cumberland on Miller Avenue, unless otherwise specified. The meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. and generally run until 6:30.
“Given the upcoming and very important mid-term election cycle, there is no time like the present to join with other like-minded conservatives,” Clark said. “We welcome all conservative Americans who are interested in learning more about how to participate in this great American experience to come join us.”
