DANVILLE — Rep. Brandun Schweizer (R-Danville) is launching an America 250 Essay Contest for students entering grades 6-12 this summer.
According to a release from Schweizer’s office, The contestants will choose one of four categories and those include:
The Future I Want to Help Build: Imagine the next 250 years…My Community’s Story: How has your community contributed to the American story?Many Stories, One Illinois: Share how different cultures, families, traditions, or experiences come together to shape Illinois and America.I am Part of the American Story: What does it mean to you to be a part of America’s story?
Students in grades 6-8 may submit a 200-word essay and high school students grades 9-12 may submit a 500-word essay. All entries must be typed in 12-point font and double spaced.
There will be five total winners of the contest, one overall winner and a winner for each of the four categories.
The overall winner will be awarded a signed certificate from Rep. Schweizer, a U.S. flag flown over the Illinois Capitol, and recognition in a media release and on social media. The category winners will receive a certificate and a U.S. flag.
