David Renz has announced he is seeking the Republican nomination for chairman of the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners.
Renz said, in a press release, he “was a student of Dalton Public Schools, Young Harris College, Southern Tech and Georgia Tech” but did not list degrees or certifications.
He has lived in Whitfield County for more than 55 years and has been married to the former Mary Julian Lumpkin for 43 years.
Renz, in his statement, said he currently serves “as an elder at ChristChurch Presbyterian Church, sitting on the Financial Committee and Building and Grounds Committee.” Renz added he is also active with the Holy Smoker Men’s Cooking Team, serves as president of the Dalton Kiwanis Club, which he has been a member of for 25 years, and serves on the board of the Dalton-Whitfield Joint Development Authority.
He is a founding board member of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northwest Georgia, according to the statement.
“My desire for this organization continues to be to provide an opportunity for the youth of our community to reach their highest potential and give back to their community,” he said in his statement.
Rens also said he has served as “board member, president, treasurer and trustee” of the Creative Arts Guild and as a board member of the United Way of Northwest Georgia and served as its campaign chair in 2006.
In his statement, Renz said he has “been appointed by three consecutive governors to the Brain and Spinal Injury Trust Fund Authority.”
He said he supports “an atmosphere which strives to embrace our diversity while creating a sense of shared community.”
“My platform is basically common sense, transparency and fair taxes,” he said.
