A pair of Generals were on the march on the Cape Ann League cross country scene this fall — and led their respective teams to glory.
Grace Rich on the girls side and Cole Regan for Hamilton-Wenham’s boys were each chosen as Cape Ann League Baker Runner of the Year for the cross country season, as selected by the league’s coaches last month.
Rich was the CAL Open individual champion in the girls race while Regan finished second among all CAL harriers. Veteran Steve Sawyer was chosen as Coach of the Year for both the boys and girls after leading the Generals to two more dual meet championships.
In the girls All-Conference selections, Rich was joined by teammates Asa Labell and Talia Label. Emily Waters from Essex Tech was also a first-team CAL all-star.
Rounding out the girls All-CAL honors were: Haley Jezowski of Amesbury; Abby Lopez of Lynnfield; Anna Sergi of Manchester-Essex; Lydia Boddy, Abigail Porto, Meilia Simone and Isla Trail all from Newburyport; Adelyn Kelly, Quinlan Kelly, and Riley MacDonald of North Reading and Mia Jaworski of Triton.
The Kinney’s Runner of the Year was Kelly with Ryan Spinner of the Hornets being Coach of the Year. Sportsmanship awards went to Essex Tech and Amesbury.
Among the boys, Hamilton-Wenham’s first-team CAL all-stars were Seth Glidden, Alden LaPointe, Cole Regan and Ryan Regan. Ipswich’s Ryan Jones also earned a first-team nod.
The other first-team boys all-stars were Josiah Fugate of Amesbury; Jeferson Do Carmo and Isaiah Nicastro of Manchester-Essex; John DeJordy, Nordeen Fadil and Michael Mohoric of Newburyport; Nalo Benedict of North Reading; and Clay Erickson, Josh Ferris and Cassidy McBee from Triton.
Mohoric earned Kinney Runner of the Year for the boys and Don Hennigar of Newburyport and Joe Colbert of Triton were co-Coaches of the Year. Essex Tech and Lynnfield received sportsmanship awards.
