CUMBERLAND — REACT, which stands for Robotics and Engineering in Allegany County Together, received an unexpected honor at the Maryland FIRST LEGO League State Championships on Saturday.
The Allegany FIRST LEGO League Qualifier, held last month at Allegany College of Maryland, received the Outstanding Qualifier Award for the state of Maryland.
The local event was chosen from 15 qualifiers across the state to receive the organizational award.
“Thank you to all of our event volunteers, community supporters, Allegany College of Maryland, ACPS and all the coaches and mentors for all you’ve done and continue to do to make this event a success,” said REACT President Barry Hartung via press release.
“Your dedication, enthusiasm and selflessness made this award possible but, more importantly, makes our qualifier an enjoyable and rewarding experience for our local youth each and every year,” he said.
Hartung congratulated the Braddock/REACT LEGO Eggos, Bishop Walsh White, Calvary Christian Coding Aquamarine, Frost Frost Bots and West Side Coding Coconuts for representing Allegany County fantastically at the state championships.
