MERRIMAC — Twelve Purple Sage Pottery potters are preparing for their 31st Fall Open Studio Sale – a tradition that brings together artists, neighbors and pottery lovers from near and far.
Scheduled for Saturday, with a rain date of Sunday, the studio at 3 Mechanic St. will open its doors to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Each creation begins as a lump of earth, shaped by hand and heart, then placed in the studio’s 70-cubic-foot gas kiln or one of its two electric kilns.
What begins as fragile, dry clay – ready to dissolve at the first touch of water – is transformed through the intense heat of the kilns into pieces that are strong and enduring. The artists liken it to alchemy: earth and fire working together to create something new and lasting.
During the open house, a wide and diverse selection will be available, from the tiniest miniatures to large vessels. The ceramic artists of Purple Sage Pottery have something for everyone.
Joining Purple Sage Pottery founder Iris Minc will be Lisa Mistretta, Hiromi Satoh, Lucy Hutchison, Judy Nevius, Jodi Bevelaqua, Emily Samataro, Dana Anzalone, Kathy Kriegel, Nancy Cahan, Darlene Beal and Wendy Jackson, who will demonstrate on the potter’s wheel.
