SALISBURY — A purchase-and-sales agreement for the former police station near Salisbury Beach was officially signed June 23, according to town officials.
The 86-year-old police station closed its doors more than six years ago once the new station on Beach Road opened. Since then, the property located at 17 Cable Ave. and 18 and 24 Railroad Ave., has solely been used for storage of seasonal beach furniture and vehicles.
In 2023, Salisbury officials issued a request for proposals to redevelop the land and chose Surf Break Hospitality as the property’s developer.
However, in 2024, the Board of Selectmen voted to terminated negotiations with Surf Break after issues arose with the project’s then-two-year deadline and the lack of a clear penalty should that not be met.
The town then reissued a request for proposals for the property’s redevelopment and selected DiPierro & Brown Construction Inc. in March 2025.
DiPierro & Brown have proposed to construct a “condotel” made up of 28 units. Ten of the units would function as hotel rooms and 18 would be purchased as condominium units for short-term stays.
DiPierro & Brown proposed a purchase price of $1,050,000 which was officially accepted by the town.
The developer and the town have agreed that DiPierro & Brown have until February 2028 to design, permit and build the project.
Salisbury Town Manager Neil Harrington said he was happy about the agreement being signed and looks forward to seeing the redevelopment begin.
“The purchase and redevelopment of the former police station property at the beach is one of the most promising investments that has been made in town in several years. The ‘condotel’ proposal was exactly what the selectmen were looking for and DiPierro & Brown have a solid track record of success. I am excited that the P&S is signed, so that the project can proceed to design, permitting and construction within a very reasonable time frame,” he said.
Gil Medeiros, a Salisbury selectman, said DiPierro & Brown’s plans are a good fit for the town.
“It’s exciting, we went through the process of the bids that we took for the property, and the group that purchased it had probably the best plans in the timeline that the town was looking for,” Medeiros said.
Medeiros said once the development is completed, it will add to the area’s value.
“The station has been down there for so many years. It’s been in disarray for a long time and we’re going to see an exciting development, and it’s just going to add to the Salisbury Beach area even more,” he said.
The sale of the old police station marks another positive step for the town, Medeiros added.
“Town’s moving in the right direction, forward and the police station is just one of the things that’s going on in town that we’re excited about,” he said.
