CAPE GIARDEAU, Mo. — Down 8-4 in the seventh, the Danville Dans battled back in the late innings on Wednesday.
The Dans tied things up at 8-8 in the eighth and Nolan Farley hit a two-run home run to give Danville a 10-8 win over the Cape Catfish at Capaha Field.
Danville was playing catchup with the Catfish all game before then. Cape took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and got the lead to 5-1 after two innings. In the third inning, Sebastian Arguelles scored on an error and Nate Vargas scored on a fielder’s choice and in the fourth, Darryl Dilworth II brought in Farley on an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-4.
But Cape would score a run in the fourth and two runs in the sixth for the 8-4 lead.
Danville started their drive in the seventh when Arguelles drive in Colton Coates on a single, Vargas would then drive in Dilworth and Michael Ryan would bring in Arguelles to get within 8-7.
Vargas got an RBI single in the eighth, bringing in Taft Middleton, before Farley’s homer in the ninth that brought him and Ryan in.
Austin Morris had five strikeouts in three innings for the win. Brendan Clarke started the game and had three strikeouts in three innings, Easton Storey had four strikeouts in two innings and Jud Files had one strikeouts in his inning of work.
Ryan ended up with three hits and three RBIs, while Vargas had three hits and two RBIs. Farley had two hits and two RBIs, Arguelles had two hits and a RBI and Dilworth had an RBI.
The Dans are 21-15 overall and 4-2 in the second half and will travel to Peru on Thursday to play the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp.
