SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — After a break to start the week, the Danville Dans returned to action on the road against the Champion City Kings on Wednesday.
The Dans took an early 1-0 lead, but the Kings would make the most of their four hits as they beat the Dans 7-3 at Carlton Davidson Stadium.
The Dans scored that first run on an sacrifice fly by Paul Wittmann in the second inning, but Champion City tied it up in the third on a sacrifice fly by Michael Bittinger.
The Kings would then take the lead for good in the fifth when Zach Rennard scored on a wild pitch, Bittinger drove in a run on a fielder’s choice and Alex Jones would score on a throw after a strikeout.
Danville got back on the board in the seventh with Nick Sutherlin got a single that brought in Andrew Ortiz and an error would bring in Tanner McMurray.
But Champion City got those runs back in the bottom of the seventh when Jack Coluzzi drove in a run on a fielder’s choice and another run came in on an error.
Evan Cooke had five strikeouts in four innings in a losing effort for the Dans, while CJ Sturiale had two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings and Cameron Tipton-Thomas had twos trikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.
Sutherlin and Joshua Martin each had two hits for Danville, who will play the Terre Haute Rex on Thursday.
