MOULTRIE — For the eighth year, the Night to Shine event will give an unforgettable prom experience to those with special needs.
“Anyone with a disability or special need is able to participate in the event,” said lead planner Nettie Hatcher, who is with the Breathe Organization. “A lot of people come from surrounding counties.”
Not only is this a chance to dress up black-tie, but those participating will be treated like royalty.
After the opportunity to get an up-do, they will walk down the red carpet while having their picture taken. Each participant will also be crowned.
The estimated number of participates is 350.
“It takes about 500 volunteers,” said Hatcher. “We do run background checks for safety.”
Volunteers are needed for a plethora of jobs, some being: buddies, shoe shine, hair and make-up and serving food.
“We match everybody who is participating up with a buddy who will stay with them,” said Hatcher. “They will walk down the red carpet together and eat dinner together before the band starts.”
The event is from 6-9 p.m. on Feb. 9, with the grand march down the red carpet beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Heritage Church is hosting this event.
