VEEDERSBURG, Ind. — Last year at this time, Evan Morgan was figuring out things with Covington boys basketball.
But this year brings a new position with new responsibilities.
In May, Morgan was named Athletics Director for Fountain Central, taking over for Jason Good.
“It was a chance to climb the ladder and continue to be in sports. It was a good opportunity,” Morgan said.
Morgan officially took over in July and has been trying to deal with changes that was going in before he took over.
“It’s been fun getting to know some new faces and new people. They have been super helpful,” Morgan said. “We have had quite a few changes in the building and constructing outside the school.”
The new challenges included a change in an athletic field and things in the building that were started before.
“We are in the process of finishing a new track and we are getting a new HVAC system that we should have had some years ago,” Morgan said. “We are getting out gym floor resealed, but that’s something a lot of schools do at this time. But there has been a lot going on this season.”
Indiana practices for all teams started on Monday, which means Morgan’s first season truly begins, which includes filling up the final coaching spot for the Mustangs that need to be filled.
“Today was the first official day for our fall sports to get going except for girls golf, who started last week,” Morgan said. “It is a super busy summer and it was real good. They (coaching vacancies) were filled by the time I came around and everything is filled except for softball coach.”
Another major thing for this season is dealing with some old friends in Covington during the year, but Morgan is ready for that.
“It will be a little different but I experienced that when I went from being a teacher at Seeger to being the boys coach at Covington,” Morgan said. “Obviously, Fountain Central and Covington has had a great rivalry anyway, It will be that much fun to see who is on the other side.”
