ROGERS — Frank McAninch scored on a 99-yard run as Mankato West defeated Rogers 17-6 in a Class AAAAA football game Wednesday.
In the fourth quarter, a Rogers’ punt was downed at the West 1-yard line. On the next play, McAninch swept the left end and raced down the sideline for the touchdown. Jakobe Tosch’s PAT put the Scarlets ahead 17-6 with six minutes to play.
Tosch kicked a 21-yard field goal in the first quarter, and West made it 10-0 on McAninch’s touchdown run in the second quarter. He finished with 123 yards on four carries.
Rogers pulled within 10-6 in the final seconds of the first half.
Trevor Sheldrup rushed for 82 yards on 24 carries, and Charlie Bobholz completed 10 of 18 passes for 135 yards.
McAninch led the defense with 12 tackles, including two tackles for loss. Ben O’Neil made 10 tackles.
West (5-3) will find out Thursday where it fits in the Section 2AAAAA seedings.
Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 37, St. Clair/Loyola 0: The Bucs rushed for 253 yards in the Section 2AA victory at Waterville.
Chase Bade led the Spartans with 44 yards rushing and 27 yards receiving.
Brevin Hansen made nine tackles for the Spartans.
WEM finished the regular season at 7-1.
Waseca 20, Fairmont 19: Kellen Klinger passed 10 yards to Damarius Russell for a touchdown with 10 seconds to play as the Bluejays clinched the top seed in the Section 3AAA playoffs with the home win.
Waseca (7-1) led 13-0 at halftime as Klinger ran for one touchdowns and passed to Carson Ohnstad for another.
However, Fairmont scored the touchdowns in the third quarter, two on interception returns, to take the lead. Fairmont also missed a field goal as time expired.
Klinger was 23 of 40 for 244 yards, with Russell catching seven passes for 92 yards.
St. Peter 30, Worthington 0: Alex Korir had 22 carries for 170 yards and three touchdowns as the Saints finished the regular season with a victory.
Korir’s touchdowns came on runs of 18, 35 and 18 yards. Ryan Moelter had a 16-yard touchdown run, and Lathe Bly kicked a 28-yard field goal.
Quinn Dixon had eight tackles and Kaden Throdahl had seven tackles to lead defense.
Volleyball
St. Clair 3, St. James Area 1: Brooklyn Meng made 24 assists as St. Clair won 25-13, 21-25, 25-21, 25-12 in a nonconference home match Tuesday.
Ashlyn DeMartini finished with 10 kills for the Cyclones, and Paige St. Peter had eight kills. Payton Blount added nine kills.
Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 3, United South Central 1: Chloe Bullerman had 12 kills and four blocks in USC’s 25-16, 25-23, 26-28, 25-21 Gopher Conference loss at Wells.
Eleny Korn had 35 assists, and Hannah Warmka made eight kills. Karly Koehler had 22 digs.
USC (13-12, 4-6 in Gopher) plays at Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman on Monday in the first round of the Section 2A playoffs.
Madelia 3, Maple River 2: Ashlynn Sweet made 27 kills and three blocks as Madelia won 22-25, 25-10, 25-20, 33-35, 15-12 in a nonconference home match.
Payton Bruns and Makayla Sorenson each served four aces, while Alicia Lugo made 22 assists, one more than Katie Bocock.
Madelia (12-15-1) will host Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in the opening round of the Section 2A tournament Monday.
