MINNEAPOLIS — Brielle Newton had two goals and two assist as Mankato East tied Luverne 4-4 but lost in a shootout Thursday in a Gold Division game at the Super Rink Winter Classic at the National Sports Center.
Laina Peterson had a goal and two assists, and Alexis Erickson added a goal and assist. Sydney Wang also had an assist.
The Cougars had 38 shots on goal, while Jordan Thomas made 23 saves.
East will play Moose Lake on Friday.
North Shore 2, Minnesota River girls 0: North Shore had a 41-7 advantage in shots on goal in the opening round of the Gold Division at the Super Rink Winter Classic at the National Sports Center.
North Shore is a co-op of Silver Bay and Two Harbors.
Annika Magelee made 39 saves for Minnesota River, which plays Pine River Area on Friday.
Superior 2, Mankato West boys 1, OT: Rickey Enter scored in the first period, but the Scarlets lost in overtime at the Heritage Hockey Classic at Duluth.
Jakobe Tosch and Grady Hatlestad had the assists on Enter’s goal. West had 19 shots on goal, while Mason Schreiber made 30 saves.
West plays Apple Valley/Burnsville on Friday.
