MANKATO — Carson Schweim finished with 20 points and nine rebounds for the Mankato East boys basketball team in a 83-78 Big Nine Conference loss to Rochester Century Tuesday at the East gym.
Brogan Madson also scored 20 points for the Cougars, while Ganden Gosch had 12 points and six rebounds.
East (5-1, 1-1 in Big Nine) plays Friday at Big Lake.
Mankato Loyola 70, St. Clair 67: Skylar Hill-Koenen led the Crusaders with 22 points and 13 rebounds in the Valley Conference home win.
Quinn Kelly added 18 points and five rebounds for Loyola.
Cedar Mountain 107, Nicollet 58: Carson Kettner scored 13 points, and Conner Martens added 12 points in the Raiders’ nonconference loss at home.
Cody Strunk added 10 points for the Raiders, and Henry Kennedy scored nine points.
Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 74, Maple River 46: Caleb Quast finished with 13 points for the Bulldogs in the Gopher Conference win.
Memphis James scored 12 for JWP, while Landon Johnson added 11 points.
The Bulldogs (4-2, 2-1 in Gopher) play Friday at Waseca.
Minnesota Valley Lutheran 80, Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 65: MVL led 52-34 at halftime of a Tomahawk Conference game at Winthrop.
Ben Pearson led MVL with 27 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Kyle Flunker added 13 points, and Will Kaesermann scored 12.
Waseca 71, Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 49: Deron Russell scored 21 points in the Bluejays’ nonconference win.
Carson Ohnstad added 18 points.
Waseca (3-2) plays at Glencoe-Silver Lake on Thursday.
Madelia 61, Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman 49: Kyle Pietsch had 17 points and 13 rebounds in Madelia’s Valley Conference road win.
Tony Zaleski had 15 points and six assists, and Josiah DeMaris added 14 points and eight rebounds. Tate Becker scored 11 points.
Madelia (4-3, 4-1 in Valley) plays at Cedar Mountain on Thursday.
Girls basketball
Mankato West 58, Northfield 46: Olivia Downs led the Scarlets with 26 points in the Big Nine Conference win at Northfield.
Ella Mullenbach added 11 points for West, and Romo Smith scored 10 points.
The Scarlets play Friday at Winona.
Rochester Century 57, Mankato East 51: Ellie Edberg had 18 points and eight rebounds in a Big Nine loss on the road.
Macy Birkholz had 19 points and three steals.
Maple River 61, Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 50: Claire McGregor scored 17 points, and Lexi Thomas scored 14 on the Eagles in a Gopher Conference win at Mapleton.
Olivia Sellers and Kelsey Jaeger each scored 11 points.
Katelyn Olson led JWP with 17 points.
Maple River (5-3, 2-2 in Gopher) plays at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial on Thursday.
New Ulm 83, Jordan 79: Morgan Hulke hit eight 3-pointers en route to a 35-point game in the nonconference win.
Ramsey Hopp added 13 points and five rebounds for the Eagles, while Daviney Dreckman had 12 points and six rebounds.
Fairmont 51, Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 47: Katelin Flack finished with 24 points in the Knights’ nonconference loss.
LCWM (5-3) will host Maple River Thursday.
Wrestling
Tri-City United triangular: Mankato West’s Brody Koberoski went 2-0 and got his 100th career win in the triangular.
The Scarlets fell to Tri-City United 37-31 and New Prague 65-6.
Evan Weibers also went 2-0 on the night for West.
St. James Area triangular: Isaac Quast and Carson James were double-winners as Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton split matches at St. James.
The Grizzlies defeated Fairmont/Martin County West 41-27 and lost to St. James Area 43-27.
Quast posted a pair of second-period falls at 172 pounds, while James won by major decision and fall at 133.
Boys swimming and diving
Mankato East 95.5, Austin 76.5: Elliot Bartell won two individual events to lead the Cougars to a Big Nine Conference victory at the East pool.
Bartell won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.09 and 100 butterfly in 55.18. He also swam with Jordan Hogue, Kaleb Kim and Isaac Luethmers on the winning 200 medley relay in 1:43.20.
Luethmers took first in the 200 freestyle in 2:00.49, and Hogue placed first in the 100 backstroke in 55.00.
Spencer Flitter won the diving with 196.35 points. Hayden Kulas took first in the 500 freestyle in 5:28.02.
