CATLIN — Sophomore Morgan Russell struck out eight as the Salt Fork Storm defeated the Covington Trojans 3-1 in prep softball action on Thursday.
Salt Fork scored twice in the first inning without the benefit of a hit as Russell helped her own cause with a bases-loaded walk followed by Karli McGee scoring on a wild pitch.
Covington’s Alexus Peaslee, who walked three and hit a batter in the first inning, settled down, holding the Storm to just 1 run on four hits but the first-inning damage was too much to overcome.
The Trojans (1-2) scratched out a run in the seventh against Russell on a groundout by Lilly Pigg, bringing home Caydence Peaslee.
Salt Fork, which improves to 10-3, got an RBI single from Sailor Pacot in the second inning.
