THOMPSONVILLE — Traverse City St. Francis senior Grace Slocum is already in midseason form after shooting a 71 for the lead on the first day of the Bob Lober Classic at Crystal Mountain Golf Course in Thompsonville.
Cadillac senior Grace Drabik finished in the top 15 after shooting an 85, which helped her team finish in 13th with 403 overall, just one point behind Petoskey with 402.
Traverse City Central finished 17th with 434, and St. Francis wrapped up day one with 443 to walk away in 18th. Traverse City West ended its evening 20th overall with 456.
Round two starts on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Crystal Mountain.

Petoskey wins Taco 5K
PETOSKEY — Petoskey had a field day on Tuesday for at the Twilight Taco 5K by placing first place in the girls and boys divisions.
Petoskey’s boys finished the day with 28 points, followed by Kalkaska and Manton with 58, and Ellsworth finished with 93. Manton junior Robert Dykhouse won the boys race at 17:58.99, Reeve Oberman (Petoskey), Parker Fettig (Petoskey) and Zahar Rush (Petoskey) round out the top five.
Petoskey’s Ava Pawlick finished first in the girls race after clocking in at 22:26.64, Fiona Scott (Petoskey), Kennedi Wahmhoff (Manton), Ruby Pletcher (Ellsworth) and Greta Meisel (Petoskey) placed in the top five.
Petoskey’s girls team finished with 24 points. Manton was second with 51. Ellsworth was third with 73, and Kalkaska was fourth with 85.

Cooley takes 1st overall at Portage Central Invite
PORTAGE — Traverse City Central tied for third place at the Portage Central Invitational on Tuesday with an overall score of 12, tying with Portage Central. Birmingham Seaholm finished in first place with 14.
Trojans’ one-singles player Tanner Cooley walked away on Tuesday as tournament champion in his flight after sweeping Zeeland West, Portage Central and Birmingham Seaholm.
TC Central travels to Traverse City West for a quad on Tuesday.
Lakers sail past Berrien Springs
BERRIEN SPRINGS — Glen Lake remains on fire after snatching their third straight win of the season by defeating Berrien Springs, 7-1.
The Lakers got wins from one-singles player Colebrook Sutherland, two-singles player Hawthorn Sutherland and three-singles player Michael Houtteman. In doubles, the one-doubles team of Ben Romzek and Oliver Mitchel, the two-doubles pair of Andrew Schopieray and Porter Martin and the three-doubles duo of Bryce Cundiff and William Krusel all collected wins.
The Lakers look to extend their winning streak at the Ludington Quad on Friday.
