TRAVERSE CITY — The rivalry will be renewed for a final time in 2024.
Both Traverse City West and Traverse City Central won their Division 1 district semifinal matches in varsity boys soccer on Tuesday, setting up a crosstown showdown Saturday at West for the championship.
The Titans (16-1-2) got the best of the Trojans (13-3) in the first two matchups this season, winning 4-0 on Sept. 12 and then 5-1 on Oct. 1 to lock up West’s 15th straight Big North Conference championship and an 18th consecutive victory over Central.
West won a close one against Midland Dow (9-10-3) in the semifinal, taking a 1-0 victory on an Aidan Orth Goal set up by Jaiden Collins. Camden Tkach was clutch in goal, securing the shutout.
The Trojans knocked off Saginaw Heritage (13-5-3) by a 3-2 final. Geordie Richmond had two goals as Gaelan Blakeslee notched the other. Will Richmond had two assists in the win, and Caleb Byland stopped five shots in net.
The district championship match is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.

Lake City boys, McBain girls win Highland championships
ROSCOMMON — Lake City and McBain were victorious at Tuesday’s Highland Conference Championships in Roscommon.
The Lake City Boys won with 48 points to runner-up Roscommon’s 50. Manton was third with 76, but junior Ranger Robert Dykhouse won a conference title by placing first with a time of 16:55.39.
Lake City was led by Caiden Helsel (3rd, 17:35.15), Connor Helsel (4th, 17:44.26), Owen Butkovich (10th, 18:27.14), Brayden Spears (13th, 18:48.78) and Carter Root (18th, 19:24.2).
The McBain girls won with 33 points. Lake City was second with 68, and Manton was fifth with 112.
Freshman Caelyn Torry led McBain to the win, earning an individual conference championship with a first-place finish of 19:12.66.
Joining Torry in the win were Kayden Hinton (4th, 20:29.69), Chelsi Eisenga (6th, 20:53.44), Madelyn Reinink (10t, 21:31.14) and Madilynn Fancett (12th, 21:34.27).
