TRAVERSE CITY — Just days after winning a Division 2 regional championship by one stroke over Cadillac, Petoskey took home the Big North Conference title with a two-stroke victory over the Vikings.
Petoskey’s top four scorers combined to fire a 377 at the Traverse City Golf & Country Club on Monday. Cadillac finished in second with a 379, followed by Traverse City Central and Alpena in third each with a 402, Traverse City West in fifth with a 417, and Traverse City St. Francis with a 421.
St. Francis’ Grace Slocum was the top medalist on the day, carding a one-under 71. Slocum, the regional champ who will be in search of her first individual state championship at the upcoming Division 4 finals at Michigan State University on Friday and Saturday, had four birdies on the front nine and one on the back to win by 11 strokes.
Petoskey’s Riley Barr finished in second place with an 82. Cadillac’s Samantha VanBrocklin, who won a D2 regional individual title, placed third with an 83 and was followed by teammate Grace Drabik in fourth with an 86. Traverse City Central’s Susie Hebert rounded out the top five with an 89.
Joining Barr for victorious Petoskey were Anna Hasse in sixth with a 93, Sara Hasse in eighth with a 96, Emma Berg in 17th with a 106, Piper Leidall in 23rd with a 109, and Brooke Philport in 25th with a 111.
Damien Gagnon led TC West with a 97 to place ninth.

Vikings split meet with Ludington, Mount Pleasant
ALMA — Cadillac went 1-1 at a meet at Alma on Monday, defeating Ludington by an 89-75 final and falling to Mount Pleasant, 102-63.
Top performances for the Vikings went to Peyton Barron, who took first place in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 200 freestyle while helping the 200 medley relay team to a third-place finish along with Nora Volmar, Jordan Sprik and Mary-Claire Rodebaugh, as well as Ivy McLeod in the 200 MI and Sprik in the 100 butterfly with runner-up efforts.
Others making contributions included Sprik (fifth in the 200 freestyle and third in the 500 freestyle), Evelyn Barron (fourth in the 200 MI and third in the 100 butterfly), Rodebaugh (fifth in the 50 freestyle), McLeod (fourth in the 100 freestyle), Alissa Tomaski (fourth in the 500 freestyle), Nora Volmar (third in the 100 breaststroke), Luci Bronkema (fifth in the 100 breaststroke), and the 400 freestyle relay team of Rodebaugh, P.
